The biggest difference between the two films for me is the fact that I actually wanted to see Battle Royale and I have barely any interest to see Hunger Games.

thats the reason i got hyped up for the hunger games. i would have like to see a BR remake because i loved the fact that it was students vs. students. and the characters actually looked like innocent kids. BR is my new favorite movie. Plus the movie is more brutal.

I can't say I don't see fault in your argument. Battle Royale was a spectacular watch. It use to be on netflix instant but went off recently.

nice article comparison. I had watched both battle royale and the hunger games and i can say that they were both very good. i liked the hunger games more even though battle royale is more action packed

i seen hunger games over the weekend and thought it wasnt very good. it had some very odd scenes.....

examples ( spoilers )....

1. Katniss wants to blow up the supplies of the alliance. makes sense. the alliance set a trap to get people to stay away. makes sense. however come to find out, they set the trap so close to their supllies that when it goes off, it destroys their supplies?????

2. Katniss sees her freind stuck in a trap. common sense would tell you that if somebody set a trap, chances are they are close by ready to see what they caught. so instead of searching the perimeter or waiting to see who comes out, she rushes out to get her freind. excellent, now they both fell for it, idiots.

3. dog things are chasing the two down. instead of climbing 1 of the hundreds of tress next to them, they run to that metal thing? wtf, idiots.

4. as they are trying to climb the metal thing, the last remaining contestant is already up there. why the hell wouldn't he try to knock them down as they climb????? why wait until they are up??? wtf???

beyond that, the action is very light and poorly done and their is no love story, she like the bf from back home still. its completely obvious when she arrives back home. and while its not shown, it seemed like the old guy at the end seen the way she looked at him on tv and realized she was full of shit.

now on that note, i have not read the books so perhaps they are better, idk but i dont get the hype. i am going to watch battle royal tonight though so i will chime in with my updated opinion on the comparison later, but for now, you know what i dont like abouot HG

well in all reality there was a lot left out from the books and in the book she doesnt like gale like that, she states she never has even thought of him like that. At the end of the book she says something to peeta that makes her not like him and she says she misses him and the whole old guy thing isnt even in the book at the end

yeah well id imagine as usual the books are better. they always are, you have an infinite amount of time and pages to develop the characters as much as you want so things are always missing. its up to the director/writers to read it and decide what is most important. unfortunately if she really doesnt like gale, and clearly states that, then they did a poor job of translating that to the movie and that seems like a rather large detail to miss.

also peeta was/is one of the biggest wimps ive ever seen on the big screen, his character was downright pathetic. the little girl was tougher than him and took the spear like a champ.

Yeah well when gale says they can go off and live in the woods together she was like "what?" i think in was something like he is a brother. But in the book peeta is kinda a wimp too. The whole scene in the cave towards the end is crazy in the book and its basically katniss taking care of a sick child. And they do a lot more kissing and cuddling than in the movie. and those dogs at the end were supposed to be like reanimation of the dead tributes. Like it had there eyes or something like that

Hollywood vs Japanese cinema? Japanese cinema everytime. Battle Royale was an amazing film and unlike their money whoring counterparts, didn't tone down on the violence so the kiddies can go see it.

A well written comparison. I like how ChrisX compared the two without giving any spoilers and downplaying either.

I believe he pointed out the biggest weakness of the Hunger Games movie. While Battle Royale has a time limit of 3 days to kill each other and survive. Hunger Games can take as long as they like meaning in the book character development and other things can be dragged and stretched out while the whole book is being compressed into a two and a half more or less hours movie.
Book to movie adaptations always have this kind of problem. Their time span are always being compressed and fast forwarded just to fit the 2 1/2 - 3 hour movie limit.
Unlike movies standalone action survival films like Battle Royale, The Running Man, The Condemned and many others have their own set time and pace.

No, I haven't watched the Hunger Games movie nor I have read the book. But, I'm interested in watching it in spite of people are comparing and being disappointed at it.

Now, excuse me 'coz I have my own hunger games to battle. My stomach. XD
