With The Hunger Games at the top of the box office, there's a lot of talk about what level of violence is acceptable for children to witness. Yes, The Hunger Games does center on kids killing kids, but it still managed a PG-13 rating. This is partially because the violence is put in the context of a criticism and made repulsive instead of exhilarating, but mostly it's because of all the quick cuts and shaky cam, which lessens the kind of gore for which the Motion Picture Association of America typically dings features. (However, if you have kids using the f-word, well, that's another story altogether!)

They just don't make movies like they used to. Look at Monster Squad, Goonies, hell even ET. All of those movies had kids who said swear words or had some adult themed in them but they were deemed as family movies. Now I bet those movies would be rated A or even worse by todays crappy standards.
What an idiotic article. It's a movie about a guy who dresses up like a bat and fights crime, the subject matter does not warrant such extreme violence. There is something to be said about traditionally R rated films being toned to PG-13 rating to appeal to wider audiences, the last Die Hard was a complete abortion of the series. Trying to make this point over batman is a little foolish though.
