'Open Water' Filmmaking Duo Return With Psychological Thriller at Sundance

CPC:
In 2004, Chris Kentis and Laura Lau premiered their feature film Open Water. The film went on to be quite the sensation at Sundance that year. Personally, I didn’t think it lived up to the hype. While some elements of it were done well and showed promise, the film as a whole just didn’t deliver for me. Now, the duo are back and will be premiering their second film at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The Sundance Institute announced that Silent House will premiere in the out-of-competition Park City at Midnight section.

I hated Open Water....It did absolutely nothing for me, and I felt like I wasted my time watching it. I know a lot of people talk about how 'defining' it was, but it was boring.

I wouldn't say I hated it per se. But yea, it was boring. Like I said, there were elements that were good. Like they had moments where they worked the tension element nicely. But overall, it was a boring movie and wasn't even remotely as good as people said it was.

I didn't hate the movie the way so many people did. I actually found it to be a rather refreshing take on a horror/suspense genre that was becoming less about the and horror/suspense and more about tongue in cheek commentary. You have to admire what they were able to do with such a limited cast and location.

darklordzor4865d ago

Well I got what they were going for and can appreciate the experiment, but sadly that didn't make it any fun. You already knew what was going to happen at the end, so any suspense for me was gone.

JL4865d ago

Yea I can appreciate it. Like I said, it had its moments and you could see the potential. I do rather like their approach to tension and suspense. That style/approach is the very reason I've enjoyed the Paranormal Activity series so far. However, Open Water just didn't execute too well. I mean you could see the potential, and it wasn't horrible. But it just wasn't there either.
