Welcome to ISSUE .... eh?
IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME HERE: Welcome! This is usually a weekly column about superhero movie news, rumors and speculation. Not this week This week it is an editorial.
THIS WEEK: In honor of Comic Con, here is why Warner Bros and DC has this whole superhero movie thing on lock (or at least as leveraged as they should). Perhaps you saw Mario make the opposite argument? He is wrong.
Ashley Madison-Sex Lies and Scandal Review: The documentary refuses to take a stand on whether or not it wants us to feel bad for cheaters, infuriating viewers with its wishy washy attitude.
Monster Review: While this film delivers elements of horror and thriller, they're only sporadically effective, leaving the overall experience falling short of expectations.
TNS: "Despite years of mindless cash-ins and unimaginative copy-paste borefests, video game adaptations have finally turned a corner! Here are the best of the best."
IMO, DC doesn't get enough love. Without DC there is no Marvel! DC laid the foundation for comic books, and Marvel wisely capitalized on it (cannibalizing plenty of DC properties along the way). DC's run in the 80s was one of the all time greatest runs in comic book history. What they accomplished with graphic novels, expanding on the medium, was just as significant as Marvel's run in the silver age.
I'm looking forward to see what WB has in store for DC's properties. I have grown tired of the producer driven films in Disney's catalogue, and I'm more excited to see what results an emphasis on the actual directors will yield on WB's end.
For all of it's flaws, MoS actually took risks instead of playing it safe. It was a refreshing change of pace from the cinematic pabulum we have come to know from Disney.
