The plot is simple. Bennett must pay his debts in seven days, otherwise the people he loves start to get hurt (his lenders quickly learn he doesn’t care about himself). But the narrative is just an excuse to explore character and addiction. The music montages sometimes jar, and the concluding moral decision might contradict the film’s message, but the ending shot is perfect
