Interstellar (2014) Review | FilmGamesEtc

Christopher Nolan’s latest film ‘Interstellar’ is a very close examination of the relationship between a father and his daughter but played out on an intergalactic scale. Beyond the focus on the relationship between Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and his daughter Murph (Mackenzie Foy) is an examination of familial ties strained by time and separation and beyond that it’s a cursory look at the effects that prolonged isolation can have on a human being and how interpersonal relationships between people can heal and repair. There are many interesting ideas brought up in ‘Interstellar’ and given its 169 minute runtime, you might even think that it has enough time to explore every idea that it brings up. But, like the explorers who must pick and choose which possibly habitable planets they can spend their precious time exploring, Nolan must decide which aspects of his movie are most deserving of the time he has to tell his story.
