CB: Maleficent brought in $4.2 million in its opening night last night. The film, which is an origin story for the iconic villain from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, played at 3,000 locations.
Maleficent’s opening night showing beats those of films of the same revisionist fairytale genre, including Alice in Wonderland ($3.9 million), and Oz the Great and Powerful ($2 million), though those films had much more limited showings and were released during the month of March.
