Trailer and Poster for The Lifeguard

Collider:
Focus World has released the trailer for the indie drama, The Lifeguard. Kristen Bell stars as a woman who is unable to cope with her life in the big city, and decides to regress by coming back to her hometown and work her old job as a lifeguard. I caught the movie at Sundance, and thought it was abysmal. The trailer tries to condense the message of the movie, which is that regression is a positive thing because it lets you find yourself. The trailer also quickly buries one the major plot points, which is Bell’s character sleeping with a teenager (David Lambert) and calling that self-discovery.

Anything with Kristen Bell is usually okay with me. I really like her. She can be funny and make me laugh so hard and she can make me cry when she does something really serious.

The Lifeguard Review | LRA

LRA writes:

Life is hard and many of the decisions we make don't always lead us to a place of happiness. Not all films are meant to make us feel happy or gleeful either. Sometimes they provide a glimpse into the darker side of life, the side where we don't always make the best decisions, but learn from our mistakes.

The Lifeguard is just such a film, where the main character is childish, reckless and damaged in all the ways that make each and every one of us flawed and genuinely human. It may not paint the best picture of an adult having a mid-life crisis, but it certainly is a real one.

The Lifeguard: ShockYa Movie Review

ShockYa: Young adults in crisis are common, especially in films. What prompts someone working at the Associated Press in New York City to move back home to suburban Connecticut to work in the job she had in high school as a lifeguard is the kind of thing that can only be explained away in a movie as an invigorating premise. Liz W. Garcia, who has worked as a writer on television shows Dawson’s Creek, Wonderfalls, Cold Case, and Memphis Beat, makes her feature film debut with this light comedy that feels all too familiar.
