Thomas of The Daily Rotation wrote, "Kon-Tiki is a man-against-nature, dramatization of the famed Kon-Tiki voyage from the directing team of Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg and screenwriters Petter Skavlan and Allan Scott. It is a beautifully shot and enjoyable film."

With the determined single-mindedness of Fitzcarraldo and the beard of Chuck from Cast Away, Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl sets out to prove that Polynesia was originally settled by the ancient Peruvians, using only a balsa wood raft, a transistor radio and raw, salt-encrusted chutzpah for the job.
Happily, it’s been worth the wait. Co-directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg have forged a pleasingly old-fashioned piece of storytelling that’s big in spectacle, yet still precise in characterisation.
Nuclear Salad writes:
“Kon-Tiki” provides an interesting view of true faith. A scientist provides evidence to support his theory that Polynesia was not settled by Asians but by Peruvians. The problem? The scientific community does not believe it possible to sail from Peru to Polynesia on a balsa wood raft, which is what the Peruvians had at the time. What is a scientist in 1947 to do to prove his theory? Well, this scientist decides to attempt to prove it by building a raft to the same specifications, using the same materials, and drifting the near 5,000 miles to the destination, just like he fully believes the Peruvians did.
its beautifully shot and artsy at some scenes. i would certainly like to see this movie.
Fantastic review Thomas. I must admit that your review, combined with the trailer makes me sorta want to check this one out -- especially for the cinematography
