In a world where Snookie is idolized by young girls, Honey Boo Boo has her own show, and Kim Kardashian is famous for, well…being a whore, it’s obvious things aren’t right. Our priorities are sadly askew. You would hope this level of obsession couldn’t get any worse than it is now. Brandon Cronenberg, however, has come to take us down that path and show us a future were celebrity worship has grown beyond our imagination. And he does so with such proficiency that it’s enough to scare the rational mind.

Cinema Sauce caught up with Brandon Cronenberg to discuss his debut film Antiviral. The apple certainly doesn’t fall far from the tree, and Brandon has created a creepy and atmospheric little horror film. He sheds a satirical light on the culture of celebrity obsession and explores a not too far off world where fans can purchase the diseases of their idols to infect themselves with. It’s all a bit disgusting but, all in all, is actually a really great film that certainly deserves recognition.

If the first poster and trailer for Brandon Cronenberg's "Antiviral" is any indication, the "body horror" apple hasn't fallen very far from the tree.
The young director's last name should be one that's very familiar to Canadian and international cinephiles. The son of famed Toronto filmmaker David Cronenberg, Brandon appears to be following in his father's stomach-churning footsteps with his feature film debut, "Antiviral." In a way that only a Cronenberg could, "Antiviral" lampoons society's obsession with celebrities and the lengths that people will go for a small taste of fame.
This one really looks weird and gross. I don't know that I would spend money to go see it. Maybe when it comes out I might rent or watch on tv.
