Unfortunately for Hurwitz and Schlossberg American Reunion is the worst piece of pie yet, not counting the unwatchable straight-to-DVD sequels. Reunion isn’t funny, contains way too much overly dramatic dialogue and feels incredibly long and out of touch with what made the original series kind of work."

I felt very much the same way after watching it in theaters. Outside of the opening scene I hardly laughed and while I felt it was nice to see the characters again, for nostalgia's sake, I thought the film was trying to hard. Ultimately I didn't find it to be awful, I've seen far worse comedies, but it didn't hold the same spark for me that the original three theatrical releases did.
