This is quite a big test for Marvel and director Whedon, we have a lot of strong characters all competing for screen time and awesomeness, all of which have rabid fanbases that will complain forever if it’s not done right. So, is it? Almost entirely yes, there are one or two niggling annoyances but for the most part it’s spot on. As Batman Begins became the benchmark for superhero origin stories on camera, mainly through focussing on the actual hero, The Avengers is going to be the benchmark for future mass character combinations in a single film.
