IGN - The Doctor (Matt Smith) is just coming to the end of an unseen and much drier solo adventure -- sans Ponds and River -- when an exploding spaceship leaves him plummeting to WWII-era Earth. Saved in the nick of time by Madge Arwell (Claire Skinner) who's in the right place at the right time, the Doctor decides to repay the debt by popping forward and visiting her and her children, Lily and Cyril (Holly Earl, Maurice Cole). Now a war widow grieving for the loss of her pilot husband and evacuated to a stately Dorset mansion, Madge will find that Christmas dreams can come true if your guardian angel -- or caretaker -- is in fact a Time Lord with a twinkle in his eye. Meanwhile, a door has opened to another world with a sentient forest under threat of deadly acid rain, so the Doctor has his hands full. He may be superfluous to requirements in the end; after all, is there anything more powerful than a mother's love?
