IGN: Like most remakes, the new version of Footloose is made to simultaneously appeal to two audiences – those who remember the original fondly and a younger crowd of moviegoers who have never heard of it. Unlike many remakes, though, Footloose actually manages to pull off that tricky balancing act by celebrating (and often stealing outright) the best parts of the original in a way that's fresh and relevant today. And when you're dealing with the premise of a big-city kid who challenges the status quo in a small town where dancing is against the law – not exactly a modern conceit – it's especially impressive.
