ScreenJabber Review: Paul

ScreenJabber:
In a world where perfectly good foreign-language movies are shoved through the Hollywood mangle just for the benefit of people who can’t cope with subtitles (or subplots, or subtlety), it’s reassuring to know that the likes of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are out there gleefully making the kind of films that sing loud, glorious hymns to the gods of geekdom – in the best way. Paul is to aliens as Shaun Of The Dead was to zombies (see also, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and Nintendo). It’s the story of two sci-fi fans, Graeme Willy (Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Frost), who meet a real alien, Paul (the voice of Rogen). After attending the annual Comic-Con in San Diego, illustrator Graeme and writer Clive set off on a road trip around America’s most notorious UFO sites, planning to end up in – where else – Roswell.

I absolutely can not wait to see this one. I love Frost/Pegg together. I'd say this is my most anticipated comedy of the year. Even more so than Hangover 2. Glad to see it's getting good reviews.

I'm not really anticipating Hangover 2 since the first one didn't make me laugh as hard as I expected to (which is weird since that is my kind of movie).

However as you said Frost/Pegg together is magic. Some of their stuff falls flat but usually they put out some quality work. I'm not one of those Seth Rogen haters either so I'm also really looking forward to this one.

4/5 sounds good to me.

Magic indeed. Maybe not all their jokes hit, but indeed I've enjoyed their movies together. It will be interesting to see how they work out without Edgar Wright with them this time, but I'm sure it should be fine.

As for Seth Rogen, I'm not as big a fan of his as the general public seems to be, but I don't hate him either. His inclusion in this movie doesn't sway me one way or the other really. Not a big enough fan that him being in it makes me even more excited. But at the same time, he's solid enough of a comedic actor that he doesn't take away any of my excitement either.

March will be a busy month with this, Sucker Punch, The Adjustment Bureau, Battle: Los Angeles and a couple others.
