The Riddler is No More, Who Should Fill the Void?

Couch Potato Club:
Well, it’s official that the Riddler will not be making an appearance in Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie. Nolan himself confirmed earlier, along with the title of the movie (The Dark Knight Rises), that the Riddler will not be the villain. He also remained tight-lipped and wouldn’t give any more information about who the villain might be. Given this news, the web has been abuzz yet again with speculation about the high-profile sequel. Speculation is again running rampant about who could possibly be the villain.

Today, we’re going to join in on the speculation and buzz as I give my top 5 choices of who could be the villain and who I would like to see. While there were previously rumors of Killer Croc being the villain (and Tom Hardy playing him), I’m not too sure on that rumor and not particularly fond of the idea either. So here we go with 5 villains that I would like to see in the third Batman film from Nolan.

I think these villians are a bit more useable in the Nolan universe, but in terms of advertisment for WB not so much. You can't really use any of these villians to gain interest in the movie. Unless you leave Nolans world and make it out there and really cool loooking in commercials.

See I don't think they need a famous villain. As I mentioned below, it's just not necessary. Even in Batman Begins you can't exactly call Al Ghul or Scarecrow famous. I'd guarantee most the people who watched that movie didn't know of at least one of those villains before the movie. So a famous villain definitely isn't necessary. ESPECIALLY since all the advertisement they need comes from "Dark Knight/Nolan". That's all they need right there. You could make the villains Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and the movie is still going to put up huge numbers just riding off the success of The Dark Knight.

Overall it's a pretty solid list. Personally I don't care for the crime boss ones, even though those are the most likely. I really want a super villain who can give Batman big problems. Call me old fashioned.

I would love to see Hush in the third film, but part of me feels like his story would need a little more lead in. Perhaps if they had mentioned him in some way in the first film (where Crane releases everyone) or even mentioned him as a boy from Bruce's past. It just seems like a lot of back story cover while still trying to move forward.

Anarky, would be interesting, but I can't see them going that route. Honestly, I really want Scarecrow to finally be a main villain. I know it's not likely to happen, but it would be nice. He's my all-time favorite and he's proved himself worthy time and again in the comics.

I think his role in Batman Begins was as strong as his character gets. He doesnt have the potential to lead an entire movie without alot of help from sub villians. He would have to be controlling an entire scheme, but the other villians take most of the movie away.

Oh I know that, and it's what makes me sad. He was way cooler in the comics, and he had his high point in the first film. Just makes me sad...

I don't particularly care for the crime boss ones either. However, they do fit in well with the story and world that Nolan has made, so can't rule those out. Preferably I'd like to see Hush, Strange or Deadshot in there. Anarky would be nice too, just his age would be an issue.

Then again....Joseph Gordon-Levitt is always talked about as looking much younger than he is. Something to think about.

I can only think it must be his personal nemesis Cialish & his gang of Viagrants.

Seriously, Black Mask sounds like an interesting story spanning the two lives of Bruce Wayne. That would make a movie-worthy psychological tale -- and you could always add a subplot for the erectile dysfunction.

the problem with this list is these are villains that most people that don't read the comics have never heard of. And the only way I'd green light Black Mask is if he was as crazy as he was in Batman: Under The Red Hood!

I am not a big Batman follower (though I have been since Batman Begins through the animated shows) but I had never heard of Ra's Al Ghul before Begins.

I don't think it is a big deal if they don't pick a 'famous' villain.

JL4928d ago

See this is what I'm talking about. The villain doesn't have to be 'famous' per se. Ra's Al Ghul most people don't know. Hell even Scarecrow most people don't know. The only truly famous ones are Riddler, Joker, Bane, Ivy, Freeze, Penguin, Catwoman and Two Face.

In fact, I'm pretty sure Nolan has gone on record before saying that he'd rather do something with the lesser known villains. The ones that not every automatically jumps to when doing Batman.

It's also rumoured that the lady from Inception (Marion Cout...) apparently turned down the female role.

Possibly Talia or Catwoman to add to the mix.

I'm pretty sure Nolan has said no Catwoman....back when he said he would be doing Penguin either.

Edit: Correction. Goyer told us there would be no Catwoman or Penguin. He's the guy that's been writing the stories with Nolan.

Good. I don't want either in the movie.
