Forbes: Walt Disney's DIS -0.95% Pete’s Dragon opens in North America on August 12th. It is the latest entry in what is quickly becoming Disney’s most promising long term “franchise.” I am speaking of their ongoing “make an animated classic into a live-action fantasy” sub-genre, although this one is a little different. Directed by David Lowery and based on a comparatively less popular source material, this one lacks big movie stars in the major roles and is also a comparatively more low key affair.
