Aloha DVD Review | The Reel Roundup

TRR: Writer/director Cameron Crowe's Aloha has had a rocky journey to home video, from the negative buzz generated from last year's Sony hacking scandal to the bad reviews that plagued the film upon its theatrical release this past May. But is it really as bad as everyone's saying it is? In the film, Bradley Cooper plays Brian Gilcrest, a soldier-turned-private-contrac tor who returns to Hawaii after a 13-year absence. Things soon get messy, however, as he becomes entangled in a love triangle involving his ex, Tracy (Rachel McAdams), and his feisty Air Force watchdog, Allison (Emma Stone). The result isn't a bad movie, per say; but Crowe does attempt to bite off more than he can chew, as evidenced by the film's scattershot narrative. That being said, it's still worth checking out for its charming cast and the picturesque Hawaiian backdrop, not to mention the superb picture and sound and nearly an hour's worth of extras found on the DVD.
