Bruno Aveillan is set to make his feature directorial debut on Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 for Paramount. Aveillan is an award-winning commercials director known for his blend of cinematic style and groundbreaking effects, which he displayed with short films for branded content that included Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Swarovski, Crystals, Audi and Samsung. Tommy Wirkola wrote and directed the original.
Aveillan will continue the adventures of the witch-hunting siblings played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. Compared to the flood of revisionist fairy tales for family audiences, this was a raucous, raunchy gem and audiences responded. The $50 million-budget film grossed $226 million and did especially strong business overseas. There is certainly room to grow this into a franchise. Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Kevin Messick are producing through Gary Sanchez Productions, with Beau Flynn and his FlynnPictureCo.
