Is Suicide Squad Too Early In DC’s Cinematic Line-Up?

One of the first properties coming out is Suicide Squad which is being helmed by Fury director David Ayer. This was probably the most surprising film announced in the line up as the Suicide Squad is made up of villains who form a covert operative team in order to lessen their criminal sentences. I don't think it is for two reasons

1 It's a nice little twist, explaining the odd side of comics. It won't be your standard hero saves the day film.

2 DC has made a living off side stories like this up till now. They already made these niche films and they did well, so just because WB is expanding the core doesn't mean this will change.

Makes me wonder if all the A-Listers like Will Smith and Ryan Gosling are being marketed to the audience to compensate for the generally unknown Suicde Squad members.

If I went on to the street and asked who Captain Boomerange, Bronze Tiger, or Deadshot are, or what the Suicide Squad is, they wont know.

But you could do the same with Guardians. While people will try to say otherwise now, before the movie released nobody really knew what they were. You had a few good fans that did, but none of the people suddenly reading it today.

Same goes for other ones, some that DC already did. Watchmen, again was more niche before the film released. Sin City. Blade. Etc...

I think the "twist" Suicide Squad offers is what will overall make it appealing. Don't get me wrong, I agree The stars do for sure help draw the attention! I think it's smart to keep a smaller title in the spotlight like that.
