i also think the 1998 film version was not that bad, it was passable, when i saw it initially back then i was entertained and it was also very heavily marketed, there are only few minor complaints like making godzilla more of a cornered animal which is not really a bad thing due to realism but understanding the orirginal concept that japanese really envisioned it to be, like an unstoppable force, it shows something fundamentally lacking in that version and is clearly more focused in this upcoming 2014 version.
