Seven years later audiences return to the battlefield to witness Frank Miller's hyper-exaggerated, gritty, stylish war between Greece and Persia. Operating on a grander scale, we witness Themistokles' attempts to unify Greece in the face of the 300 Spartan's martyrdom. We also get a glimpse into the origins of Xerxes at the hands of a new character, Artemisia. Played brilliantly, Artemisia is definitely the highlight in this film and makes up for the lack of a dynamic character like what Gerard Butler provided. Rise of an Empire is a solid setup for an obvious follow up.
