It seems that everything these days is turned into a franchise. J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, a self-contained novel stretched into a three-part movie series, is one such example. The book itself is smaller than any of the three Lord of the Rings books, yet somehow it has been given its own trilogy. It appears as if these movies are just a ploy to take money from the willing fans of those who love The Lord of the Rings universe. However, although this might be the case, Peter Jackson has used this opportunity to enhance the plot of The Hobbit into a logical prequel.
