The executive producer role can be a bit of a tricky one. In general, an executive producer is the money guy. He is the one that brings in funding for the film. He probably also sets the general time frame for a production. Though, the actual producer is the one responsible for micromanaging the money and time schedule. The executive producer is there to just oversee the producer and make sure he's staying on budget and on the proper time frame.

He's typically not going to be involved in any of the technical or creative aspects. Though, it is possible for the executive producer to serve as a bit of an advisor in those areas. But for the most part, he's the business guy that the studio brings on as a liaison between the studio and the producer.

Where it gets tricky is that some executive producers are more "hands-on" than others (ie the advisory role). Also, some people are given executive producer titles as kind of an honorary badge.

For instance, maybe some guy helped revise a script (or part of it) and they give him an executive producer title just as a thanks. Another example would be to look at Stan Lee. He has tons of executive producer credits. Chances are he did nothing on those films for that title, though. Instead, he was given the title as a honorary thing due to having created the characters the movies were based on. Likewise, maybe one of the financial contributors to the production wants to see his name in lights, so to speak, and he would be given an executive producer title as a "thanks" for the money he provided. So there's a bit of a grey area there.

As for Nolan, my guess is that he's probably serving as the more traditional executive producer on this. He's serving as the liaison between WB and the producers. With his name as big as it is, he'll probably be real good at attracting money to fund the project. And I'm sure the reason he was chosen was almost honorary due to his involvement with the DC Universe in the past. It is possible he'll also serve in that advisory role as well, but I wouldn't expect it to be near as much as he was involved when he served as producer on Man of Steel.

It's not going to be the Dark Knight Batman that you've grown used to from Nolan. They're rebooting Batman for this. So, of course they'll do an interpretation of the character that fits in well with Snyder's Superman.

I'd have to agree with nix. This is going to be a set up for the JL movie. So, I doubt we're going to see a full Batman vs Superman thing. My guess is something more akin to the two butting heads due to some misunderstanding or something, but towards the end they unite and come together for the greater good.

Just go watch that 3 part Superman:tas special. It's going to be a long time before anyone feels comfortable choosing Joker as the villain again.

They are different universes so I dont think that will happen.
