IGN:
On the heels of a new and improved Michonne three weeks back, The Walking Dead delivered another nice bit of character redemption this week. Of course, this one was redemption by way of sacrifice, as Merle faced who he was and what he’d done and decided he’d do all he could to stop the Governor, no matter the cost.

Don’t let the cringey awkwardness of The Office fool you: Michael Scott would actually be the perfect boss.
one of the best episodes of season 3. I wonder what will happen on the finale. who will be killed, etc. I dont think that the governor will die on the season finale. there are a lot of things that i expect he'll do like ... (**SPOILERS: cutting ricks arm, etc.). He still has a lot of potential, kinda like what they did to shane they keep him alive until the farm, I'm guessing they'll do the same with the governor.
Merle was just trying to do what's right. He wasn't trying to protect the group. He wanted to do right by Daryl. He just hated the Governor a lot and wanted to hurt him as much as possible while he still could. He just wanted to do one good thing in the post-apocalyptic world to make up just a little bit of all of the horrible things he's done.
This was a solid episode. It's too bad Merle had to go, but he went in a great episode leading into the season finale.
