Adapting books into films can be hard, especially when the book in question is the hottest young adult novel currently on the market. It’s always important to remember that adaptations can only follow the source material so far—without the right cinematic concessions, they wind up making poor movies. I wish I could say The Hunger Games didn’t screw this up, but I can’t. The Hunger Games suffers from sloppy camerawork, and a slavish devotion to the book. Neither alone is wholly damning, but combined they bring down the quality of the entire movie.
