TVF Elementary: "Enough Nemesis to Go Around" Review

TVF:
While not having the visual panache of either the Downey Jr. films or the Cumberbatch BBC series, CBS' Elementary, in a sense, has had to take a lot more risks to differentiate itself from the rest of the Sherlockian pack. It started with making Watson a woman, and then continued the trend through its sly portrayals of Irene/Moriarty, Mycroft, and Lestrade.

Another way that this show, which has had to fill way more airtime than either of the other two franchises, has managed to stand apart from the rest is with the actual apprenticeship of Joan. The mentorship process itself. The fact that we've been able to watch her grow as a detective episode to episode, year to year, and have it all feel very natural and earned is one of the best parts of this series. So much so that we as viewers could easily see the mutual benefit in the Holmes/Watson partnership - and can now also ascertain why Sherlock would attempt to mentor someone else.

I was very happy with the way they started the series. Watson was on her own and doing a great job but you could tell she was hurt when he came back and had a new partner which turned out to be just a new student similar to what she was in the beginning. Still she and Sherlock have bridges to mend.
