I wasn't sold on the idea until I saw Renner in MI4. I definitely thought he could do it based on that movie.
The movie isn't based on the book. The book has Bourne\Webb in it, this one just mentions him.
And really, even if the movie is a cash in, who cares if the movie is good. The whole point of movies is to be entertained.

I knew the inevitable comparisons would come up and I have no problem with people saying one of the Avengers, TDKR or ASM was the best of the 3. I've loved all of them this year.
I personally thought TDKR was the 'best' but I thought the Avengers was the most fun movie I've been in a long time.
I believe studios owns rights to characters. I am guessing this was before Marvel decided to open/make movies.
eg Sony owns Spider-man, Fox owns the X-Men etc.
