Golden Globes 2012: Ricky Gervais' Opening Monologue

THR:
He's back!

Ricky Gervais returned to the stage for the third time to host the Golden Globes on Sunday, February 15.

After last year's performance, many felt that the British comedian had gone too far with some of his jokes. So what would the actor bring to the podium this year?

In his opening monologue, Gervais wasn't afraid to take jabs at NBC, Helen Mirren ("Honestly, you don't see a lot of it because she's got good PR, but she's off the rails,"), Johnny Depp, Justin Bieber, Jodie Foster and the Globes themselves ("For any of you who don't know, the Golden Globes are just like the Oscars, but without all that esteem.")

The reason I'm recording this is because I don't want to miss one word of what he says and I can fast forward when some ofthe boring stuff comes on too. I know some of it is going to be funny so I can't wait to see it.

I think people just need to take a chill pill and enjoy the show and not take themselves so seriously.

I never want to sit through these and I only have rabbit ears so I can't DVR them, but then I see things people post such as Tina Fey photobombing Amy Poehler and then I wish I had.

I think he did a great job again. In fact I think he held back just a little from last year. He shouldn't have though....I think most people like his humor anyway. The reason they show up is because they're curious about what he's going to say next.

I don't think he held back, I think he was just a little more tactfull in how he came across this time. Never been a fan of Ricky but I did laugh at some the jokes. Last years I only found funny because of how hard he was trying to offend, which then became funnier when people actually got offended.

[I'm not the one who disagreed with yout comment by the way :P]

That's okay...everyone has an opinion and I'm good with that. I like him because he's very blunt but at the same time he said he would never do mean or cruel jokes that would offend like the general public....you know, like a fat joke or a joke about someone who is slow....something like.

I was a little surprised and annoyed at the number of celebs who either were only laughing a little or outright frowning at his jokes. At least Hellen Mirren laughed at herself!
Loosen up those sphincters, people!

I could see that. Jodie Foster laughed too. I'm glad he did the hosting again...I wish he could do all the hosting...sometime super rich people need to be brought down to reality.
