Bone-idle Review : Don't Be Afraid of The Dark

Bone-idle writes "Don’t let the poster fool you. Firstly, to my profound displeasure, this film is not based on the 90’s children’s television programme Are You Afraid of the Dark? Which is an automatic missed opportunity for some nostalgic goodwill from the audience. It is instead a remake of a 1973 TV movie of the same name. Secondly, despite his name being the prominent one plastered on the poster, this isnot a Guillermo Del Toro film. Here, he merely enjoys a co-writer / producer credit. And while there are various similarities to his other work, this ultimately comes across as a misguided cover version. Because, unfortunately, Don’t be Afraid of the Dark is a pretty bad film"

Entering the Stream: New to Netflix Films for May

Movies Hate You Too writes:

One of the biggest complaints you hear about Netflix Streaming is their lack of quality films. To a certain extent I would agree with that sentiment but for whatever reason I don’t have as big of a problem with their lineup as some customers do. Most of the films I watch on Netflix are more geared towards older catalog titles than new releases so that probably has a lot to do with my higher level of satisfaction. For May however Netflix has added several new releases in addition to adding a large amount of interesting catalog titles.

About time. While I appreciate the selection of older movies, Netflix is seriously lacking with newer releases compared to other streaming services.

eh better then hulu plus, ive never heard of at least half of the movies they got, they look like straight to dvd crap to me

HenderShot4375d ago

I'm considering Amazon's service. If I upgrade my account to Amazon Prime, it might be worth it for the streaming.

ilikestuff4375d ago

I've been thinking about trying out prime but it seems as thought u gotta rummage through everything just to find the free stuff, and every time i go on ill be tempted to buy movies then there goes the rent

--Onilink--4375d ago

spicelicka4375d ago

Starship troopers :)

I wish they'd add Season 4 of the old Twilight Zone though :( it looks kind of sad to see Seasons 1-3 then jumps right to 5.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark Blu-ray Review - WGTC

Jeremy of We Got This Covered wrote, "When Guillermo del Toro‘s name is attached to a project that usually means it’s going to be pretty good. If the story is stale or the characters just aren’t doing it for you then you know he’ll make up for it with the scenery, but this time visionary director del Toro hands over his script to newcomer Troy Nixey. Nixey victoriously secures the visual feel of a del Toro production, but for every strong moment of true terror there’s a long stretch of drab dialogue. Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark offers a healthy supply of scares, but their unbalanced with the rest of the film."

I wanted to see this but I never got a chance. If anyone did was it as spooky as it seemed in the previews?
