What truly stands out in this prequel, in comparison with the other X-Men films for instance, is the very real on-screen chemistry between McAvoy and Fassbender, and how they have delicately woven this into the storyline. Previous X-Men films have lacked this genuine emotion and the understanding of how these two characters truly loved one another, but were torn apart by ideology. Beyond the basic plot, the film is about X and Magneto discovering their own destinies, particularly Magneto.
