Deadline says:
Video streaming juggernaut Netflix is becoming an original programming player. In what is probably the biggest gamble in its 14-year history, I hear Netflix has outbid several major cable networks, including HBO and AMC, for Media Rights Capital's drama series House of Cards, executive produced and directed by David Fincher and exec produced by and starring Kevin Spacey.
The Doomsday Cult of Antares De La Luz Review: The documentary explores how the cult members were coerced in the group and made accomplice of heinous crimes.
City Hunter Review: The manga adaptation unravels the tragic beginning of Ryo Saeba and Kaori Makimura's partnership.
Deliver Me Review: The Swedish series follows two troubled teen and their troublesome lives when one of them is shot dead.
I'd rather Netflix focus on getting all of the other movies I want to watch on their Instant Watch instead of this stuff.
This is some insanely interesting news for so many reasons. This series was a very highly coveted project that all of the big players wanted in on. The fact that they thought so highly of it so as to make a gamble big enough to outbid HBO and AMC is very intriguing. Should this work out for them, then something tells me this isn't going to be the only "original programming" we see from them. Then what happens? Do they start selling the rights to air their shows to the likes of NBC, ABC et all or do they use it as chips in negotiating other deals? If they do such things, will it hurt their chances of bringing the competitors programming to Netflix users?
Only time will tell how this plays out but something tells me this could very well become a bit of a game changer either for the better or worse.
@Soliderone,
Yeah that's pretty much dead on. I never see them getting far to the point of pulling any programming off, it's just a unique scenario. Personally I don't think I watch enough TV shows to really care all that much.
Seriously, if it's not a cartoon of some sort (which I use my toddler as an excuse to watch) or an amazing videos type show, I normally don't watch anything. I always say I will, and try to get into the latest and greatest shows, but I never do.
