Ryan Phillippe stars as a heroic sniper in a new limited series based on the 2007 action thriller.
Though a remake of the 2007 film of the same name, USA's new limited series, Shooter, also comes across as an attempt to tap into the massive success of 2013's American Sniper. But as both films featured an All-American sniper hero torn between duty and family (one real and one fictional), maybe that comparison is inevitable. Shooter's premiere episode is very reminiscent of the film in that it's a slickly designed action thriller without much to offer in the way of political commentary or depth.
