The Magicians further expanded in its world in "Homecoming," but more importantly expanded its characters. The audience came out of this episode understanding Quentin, Alice and the rest of the bunch just that much more than they did going into it, which is a huge win for a show where the plot moves so quickly. Unfortunately not all the plot development landed, but The Magicians has earned the right for patience this far into its first season.
