Since last week’s edition of Spotlight focused on the British comedy series The Inbetweeners, I found it only natural to tackle its spiritual successor, Chickens, next. Chickens, created by, written by, and starring Simon Bird and Joe Thomas (The Inbetweeners), along with the brilliant addition of Jonny Sweet (Babylon), is a lesser known, but equally hilarious, comedy series. Chickens originally aired on Channel 4 in the form of the pilot episode in the United Kingdom. Chickens debuted as part of Channel 4’s Comedy Showcase, which presents stand alone comedies from popular British comedic talent. Channel 4 decided not to continue with the series, despite airing the original episode. A 6 episode season of Chickens was eventually ordered by Sky 1, a British pay channel that is home to many American imports from cable channels like HBO, but has few original series to claim credit for.
