True Detective Season Review - IGN

IGN

Was True Detective's second season as good as its first one? Of course not. In fact, given the "lighting in a bottle" phenomenon of that first run, with Harrelson and McConaughey, it could never be. An argument can even be made that keeping this new story under the True Detective brand stacked the deck against it in immeasurable ways. Especially when you consider how some of the love for the first season began to wane post-Fargo and the show didn't wind up collecting as many awards as initially presumed. So when some fans eyed the new cast, and pronounced the ensemble underwhelming, the snark began to free-flow. And by the time the first Season 2 trailer dropped, many had already pre-soured on the summer run.
