‘Gotham’ Costume Designer Finds Inspiration in ‘Blade Runner,’ Steampunk

A panoply of ideas drove costume designer Lisa Padovani’s choices for the first season of “Gotham,” Fox’s Batman origins series.

Influenced by “Blade Runner,” she mixed styles from all eras, a device meant to allow a large number of viewers to find a personal connection to the fictional setting. For example, both Steampunk and rock ’n’ roll elements are integrated into the leather jacket and clunky boots of guttersnipe Selina Kyle, played by Camren Bicondova.
