Egypt Bans 'Exodus: Gods And Kings' Over 'Historical Inaccuracies'

Variety

A report from the Egyptian site Mobtada said censors issued the ban due to movie’s “historical inaccuracies.”

Those included the film’s depiction of Jews as having built the Pyramids and the Biblical story of a miracle by Moses causing the Red Sea to part so that the Jewish people could escape from the pursuing Egyptian army.

Not really. I mean, what the hell are all those white people doing in Africa 6000 years ago?

Why is there ZERO historical evidence that there was a vast European invasion at this time period?

It was closer to 3000 years ago. Egyptian are not black like the sub-Saharan Africans or Ethiopians (who were Cushites in the Bible). They look like most middle eastern people who look closer to white than sub-Saharan African imo. Plus the production company didn't want to make it somewhere where the can get middle eastern actors like in Spain.

Sorry, Non, but that is wrong. It is called Eurocentric reasoning. We see, even in hieroglyphics that the artists used brown and dark brown paints to show how dark the skin of the Egyptians were.

In fact, most invasions in that time period were out of Africa, not into.

All this does is bring it more attention. Great job guys. This was a long time ago. Who cares?

"Those included the film’s depiction of Jews as having built the Pyramids and the Biblical story of a miracle by Moses causing the Red Sea to part so that the Jewish people could escape from the pursuing Egyptian army."

Some of that's going to be contentious, considering how Egyptian chronology still has a lot of work needed to done, but why not let an obvious fictionalization that takes artistic liberty of its source material be allowed into the greater cultural conversation there? It can be a great jumping off point for the Egyptian people to discuss these supposed events and bring to light what's been uncovered (thus far). Competing historians can bring their side of the story, the relevant data acquired, and so on and debate the validity of this historical account.

Sounds like greater progress than just banning it outright.

The Bible itself said they were just making mud bricks in Goshen. And about Egyptian history. Egypt was known to rewrite its history many times. The Egyptian historian Manetho when making his kings list tried to make it as long as possible to compete against Berossus, the Babylonian historian, in a contest to see which kingdom was older. Both historians listed co-rulers as having reigned in different times. It is also worth noting that Egyptian never named specific enemies. To write or pronounce the name of the dead was granting them eternal life.
