10 Movie Franchises That Got Better With Each Film

WhatCulture: One largely unbroken rule of filmmaking is that the longer a movie series drags on, the worse it’s going to get: just look at pretty much any horror franchise to see that law of diminishing returns kicking in after no more than two or three movies. Though studios simply won’t care as long as their opening weekend is lucrative to fans of what came before, it can be pretty heartbreaking.

Harry certainly did, or at least beyond Half Blood Prince, which seemed more like a dull bridge like Chamber of Secrets. HP's beginning, middle, and spectacular ends were the hooks you were driving for.

Half Blood Prince was actually my favorite film of the HP series. It did seem a bit like a filler episode though.

hopefully hunger games will be a good franchise that will get better with each passing film.

i do not think most of the movies mentioned got better but of course everyone has his own point of view

harry potter got better every film until the fifth installment: order of the phoenix, which i think is the weakest among the rest.

lord of the rings maybe, but i think the first film is better than the second.

the before thrilogy has the second one the weakest

star wars prequel trilogy and bourne trilogy were accurate being getting better every step.

Not a big fan of Bourne 3. It pretty much just rehashes a lot of the scenes from part 2, with Paul Greengrass' shaky cam technique starting to feel a little old. I do enjoy it for the closure to the series, but the stunts pale in comparison to the first two. The first film is especially underrated, it might be the best.

Fast and the Furious...

Not saying its oscar worthy, but its certainly more ups the ante with each iteration than its boy racer beginnings.
