Last year saw the tragic loss of one of the greatest, most versatile and humanistic performers working in Hollywood. James Gandolfini often played thuggish, violent characters, owing to his New Jersey heritage and large stature: in reality, the actor was an avowed pacifist who had reservations about the malicious conduct of his best-known character Tony Soprano, and produced two documentaries about post-traumatic stress and life-changing injuries suffered by war veterans.
USA Today:
James Gandolfini has his final screen performance in 'The Drop' alongside Tom Hardy.
It was shortly after their first meeting on the Brooklyn set of The Drop that Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini had to shoot a pivotal, intense scene together.
But director Michaël Roskam had plenty of confidence in the duo for the drama about the underground crime world (due out Sept. 19).
RIP Mr.Soprano
What a total bummer. I liked the man's acting ability. Admittedly, I was also hoping for some sort of Sopranos followup too.
I can't believe it. What a kick in the balls. Best TV show ever.
If only David Chase didn't cop out and cut to a black screen and a lame 80s song instead of giving a show of that stature a proper finale. It's unfortunate but his legacy will never shake the poor series finale of The Sopranos.
I think at the time Chase had a 'grey area' ending because he was holding out for a movie.
Sopranos is a rare TV show where every episode of every season was good.
R.I.P you will be missed
