Is Disney Making Another John Carter Style Mistake With The Lone Ranger

Skewed and Reviewed have posted an opinion piece asking if the pending "The Lone Ranger" is doomed to the same failure as "John Carter". The segment looks at the lack of buzz and cost issues for the film as major concerns for the studio.

The problem with Disney is the fact they are trying to create a "franchise" like Pirates. Pirates was never intended to be a franchise, and it turned into one. They need to go back to that. Don't plan a franchise, just plan a really good movie and see where it goes.

You have a point there. Pirates was intended, and perfectly fine as a stand alone film.

If people enjoy it, make another, if they dont, then theres no need in always trying to create the "next big film franchise"

Good points all around. If you are investing upwards of 250 million, make sure your audience wants a western based on a character your grand father and great grandfather remember.

What bothered me was the trailer the showed Silver as a comic relief. This is his trusty and loyal horse, I do not want to see it being made the focus of jokes.
