'Catching Fire' Arena To Be Shot In IMAX

MTV:
'It will be amazing,' 'Hunger Games' star Josh Hutcherson tells MTV.

While many of us are still nursing a turkey hangover, the cast and crew of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will be working off their Thanksgiving calories running through the jungles of Hawaii, filming scenes for the sequel's 75th annual Hunger Games — otherwise known as the Quarter Quell in Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel.

And when star Josh Hutcherson stopped by MTV News last week to share his own thankful list for 2012, he also gave us a taste of what to expect from the arena when the film hits theaters on November 22, 2013.

I can't believe it's still a year away.

I don't understand the appeal to shooting in Imax? What exactly is the benefit?

I watched several movies that had some scenes shot in Imax, in a Imax theater, and the only thing I noticed was it took up the full frame instead of a black bar at the top and bottom. Personally it made it feel somewhat unprofessional because it kept changing.

Visually I didn't really notice any other difference. Especially when watching the movies on a "regular" bigger screen.

I don't know since I have never seen any of the movies in IMAX. I probably never will. I like seeing them on the big screen but I agree with Soldierone on this.

i was also wondering what was the special effect of an imax shot compared to a regular shot? if the director shifts to i max to often with a regular shot it really feels distracting too see the top and bottom bars appear and disappear. but if it only includes certain scenes that really need an emphasis i think its a plus if its an i max shot. so the arena on catching fire should be shot in i max to emphasize something.
