Cobie Smulders' inclusion in last summer’s comic book movie mega-hit, The Avengers, as Agent Maria Hill left many fans wondering what the actress’ role in the larger Marvel cinematic universe might be. When the S.H.I.E.L.D. television series was announced it was natural to guess that she may be a part of that story. As we know, the pilot began shooting this week with Joss Whedon at the helm, and none of the central players in the series, thus far, are adapted from existing Marvel Comics characters. In fact, the only person attached to the project who is also connected to the Marvel movies is Clark Gregg, who is set to revive (yep) his role as Agent Phil Coulson, a character that was originally created specifically for the films.
