What's With All The Superheroes On TV?

The abundance of superhero movies should have become all to apparent to anyone who hasn't been living under a rock for the past decade

It all started in the 1980's when marvel tested the waters with its tv shows of the Thor, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Batman and a few other of its mainstream characters. That probably did not go as well as expected with the lack of CGI and the "magic" that makes the superheroes great in the first place. Then came the 2000's a new technical burst paved way for new, innovative, ideas that could be made into a reality without feeling like they were made by a child. Bryan singer was the main man on the scene with his X-men film that rocked the pants off comic book nerds and he paved way for the next generation of the comic book tv era. After the success of the X-men franchise the other studios followed suite some being bashed on(Dare Devil, superman returns, cat woman),  while others rising up to the challenge like Spider-man, Blade, the incredible hulk becoming a promising profit house for the studios.

The Nolan twist to the Batman franchise did help out DC cover up the blunder it made with superman returns. With it becoming one of the highest grossing films of all time. All the while shows like Smallville bringing a cult  following to the superman franchise. This caught the other studios attention apparently as they began work on different projects from cult followings like the Kick-ass to high budget main stream films like Nolan's Superman. Now the standards had been set at this particular time, the money had started rolling in and so the expectations of the public also increased.

Marvel studios has set its sights on becoming the pioneer when it comes to this, the roll-out of shows like arrow proved that the formula of superhero tv shows still worked so Marvel decided to tie in as many of its heroes as possible and so the launch of other shows ensued, The agents of Shield, the flash, Gotham and others. While on the big screen Marvel phase one rolled out from the Iron man, Captain America, Thor till the Avengers which became the highest grossing film of the year. Now Marvel is about to end phase two with Avengers Age of Ultron set for release first quarter next year. It also discovered that other superhero films that are not known by the general public can also make big bux i.e the guardians of the galaxy.

This is not the end however since Marvel phase 3 has been revealed which goes all the way up till 2019 and DC has also stepped in to show their plans for the future, we don't know how long this trend will last because they have decades worth of content they can cover so its up to us if we actually want them to stay or not.
