Richard "Where the f#ck does film critic Rex Reed get off calling Identity Thief actress Melissa McCarthy “tractor-sized” and a “hippo” among other personally directed criticisms in his review of the film? For a man who purports himself to be a “professional film critic”, as his criticisms of the proliferation of “unqualified” critics that inhabit the interwebs suggest, this is the most unprofessional and mean-spirited manner of criticism that I have ever read. To personally attack a person in a manner such as this is petty, idiotic and simply disgusting."
A critics job is simply to critique the film and performances within not the people who play those roles. One is certainly within bounds saying something like Identity Thief isn't funny but to account the weight and looks of one of the actresses is out of line and that starts to get personal. The sad part is many critics do this. Many let their personal dislike of a actor or actress get in the way of doing a professional and well written review and it gets far worse when you start entering the blogs that review movies as well.
