Forbes:To compile our list, we used data on actors’ earnings gathered for our Celebrity 100 list. Box office grosses and budget estimates are from Box Office Mojo. We looked at the last three films each actor starred in over the last three years that opened in more than 2,000 theaters, calculating the return on investment for the studios who pay his (or her) salary. We didn’t count movies where the actor was in a supporting or large ensemble role and we didn’t count animated movies. The actors who score well on this list tend to have small paydays and star in highly profitable movies

Half of these people don't deserve the rank they got...happy for Portman, though.
I've never understood how they come to most of the conclusions they come to anyway.
I hate these end of the year lists, often disagree with a majority of them. I just saw the "top women" for some mens magazine, couldn't disagree with it more with their terrible choices. Only good ones in the top ten were Mila Kunis (2) and Jennifer Lawrence (8 I think)
How the hell did Stewart make this list, a really terrible choice. Other than that, Portman, Radcliff and Cooper were the only good ones on the list.
it might not be the actor/actress that made most of the returns but the actual franchise. several actors mentioned on the list like robert pattison, daniel radcliff, shia labouf and taylor lautner get payed well because the franchise they are involved has a strong target market but yes they are also a reason why the franchise did well, but if you look at it another way they can be replaceable from the start and the movie might also do well. compared to natalie portman, dwayne johnson, kirsten stewart and bradley cooper they can make diffrent movies outside the franchises they were involved and still make other movies profitable.
