I just got back from seeing it myself. I think all the reviews had lowered my expectations, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I anticipated.
I think I'd venture a half-star higher than Paul rated it in this review. 3.5, edging close to a 4. It's not great by any means, but it's decent fun.

What I found most upsetting about it is how they seem to completely disregard the classic movie/tv stereotype of the evil, greedy tycoon and turn it into a political issue.
Yes, because every person with money is altruistic and selfless. Right.
I didn't even realize they were adapting this into a movie until recently. John Carter's tales were part of my childhood reading experiences and I'm actually psyched, even if Taylor Kitsch seems a bit... weak.
I dunno...
I loved Let The Right One In and I was actually downright angry when I heard about the remake.
Maybe I'll give it a shot once it hits video... maybe.
Honestly, a huge loss to the industry :/
