It's not everyday that someone takes the time to make a review this personal. I really enjoyed this one. I had forgotten all about the days we'd walk into a local video house and rent a stack of VHS movies AND the VCR to watch them on. Good Times...
Although I think Green Lantern looks pretty good I think you hit the nail on the head..."Though at the same time it looks like it could also be just another generic superhero movie that is pretty much all style, no substance and turns out to be just mediocre."
Green Hornet is definitely a throwback and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna Redbox it.
My honest opinion of the first film is that it was a decent movie but it was the marketing that was absolutely amazing. I was very disappointed to see them try to market the movie the exact same way the second time around, and I really hope they come up with something fresh with the 3rd one. I haven't seen part2 and will probably Redbox it, as for the 3rd it's very obvious that it's going to become the next SAW and will be timed to release every October until 2020.
The only movie I have to take issue with on this list is Desperado. I don't really think you can compare it to El Mariachi because the original was made with a 1-2 person crew and $7,000. The sequel had millions.
Other than that the list is great.
I think Hatchet had a bit more humor-than-horror even for the 80's comparison. The tagline for the original was genius, "It's not a remake, it's not a sequel, and it's not based on a Japanese movie."
But the movie failed.
I think Jonah Hill is going to be around for a long time. He hasn't even begun to tap into his versatility.
That's actually a pretty good explanation.
There is a ton of room for commentary with a film like this but judging by the trailer it doesn't look that that's going to be the case.
I'd say it's a weekend rental at best. Good for a few laughs.
If these are the guys that are keeping a half century old franchise alive I'd line up to see what else they've got.
Doesn't HBO already offer an On-Demand catalog (free + paid)? I'm sure they'll make a ton of money but they'll probably charge way more than Netflix so I'm out.
My attention is on 'At The Mountains of Madness' now.
I kinda like the look. MASH is exactly what it looks like, great observation.
That's insane. If it weren't for the inclusion of the response from Hanover I'd be second guessing this one. Somebody is getting fired. All I can say is WOW.
'500 Days of Summer' was a great movie and I've seen 'Death Race' at least 5 times. 'Gone with the Wind' is my all time favorite film but I stood in line on opening day to see 'Predators'. It's amazing to see the comments above that discredit the review because she is a woman all the while they are showing how close minded they themselves are. I'll still be watching 'The Expendables' but to be honest this review is what I expected to hear ab...
So it's Jake Gyllenhaal who keeps spamming everyone with Viagra ads. This actually looks like it could be funny but I'm feeling a Redbox vibe (I'll rent it).
This gets to me every time it comes up. I love the internet and online shopping but that doesn't mean I want to see my brick & mortars disappear.
I hope I'm not let down by this one. I was already going in with lowered expectations but hoped to have a good time. We'll see.
This looks great. Unfortunately I'm starting to lose faith in 'The Avengers' though. With 'Thor' and 'Captain America' set to be released it's just starting to feel 'milked'.
Actually I posted my review on it and thought it was great. I'm gonna stay away from the shameless plug but it's already on Filmwatch if you want to read a different opinion - I liked it.
