@Someplay: the reason i made this comment was because Sony is almost always challenged when it comes to the quality of their exclusives. Whether it's the so called "downgraded" 3 months before their games are released, Driveclub, UC4, Horizon, ect... to try to create a backlash so people won't buy the games.

I've just stated a fact. Sony has the best record when it comes to Exclusives so know one should be surprised anymore.

3 months ago people were saying they don't like this about the game or that about the game, and that it looks like it's going to flop.

This wasn't against Xbox or Nintendo. It's about knowing Sony = quality.

Last one to miss was The Order 1886 or Street Fighter V I guess, but that was awhile ago, and till had fun with them as rentals. I think I have never bought this many exclusives ever for a console, PS4 is destroying it.

1 year later after they brought the price down for the game ($20) people bought it and said they like the game, and that they want a sequel because they want to know what happens next. . I member watching people play the game on Twitch and them saying they are really enjoying the game. then a bunch of haters kept trying to persuade the streamers that it's bad and after a while of this they slowly changed their minds, sad. Street Fighter wasn't an exclusives was it? I thought it was a timed exclusive.

The game came out in 2015 and was the first new major exclusive for sony since the ps4 was released. at this point the ps4 and Xbox one were neck and neck in sales and the console war was raw and at a fever pitch. I remember how badly the hate for this game was by the xbox fanboys and how they worked over time to fill social media with false narratives in regards to what the game was meant to be. They, and the media, somehow thought t was supposed to be a 50+ hr game like the Witcher when the devs were going for a AAA version of The Walking dead. So at some point it became " this game isn't worth $60 even though the devs spend 30 times more on the game than The Walking Dead game. so yeah, it was a more expensive version of The Walking Dead. but it's also a better version of that style of game as well.

i want to play a sequel because i liked the story, guns, characters, and the atmosphere.

other games have come out since that are similar and never got the hate this game did. Until Dawn being one of them. but it ca,e out after the ps4 pulled away in sales 6 moths later.

The Order 1886 wasn't shit... The game was short and high priced, that was the only issue... The story was good. The characters, Setting was outstanding.. And like Samosonon said Social media destroyed the game before release and the same is being done with Days Gone .
The Order 1886 deserves a 2nd chance where it can rectify their old mistakes..

ok stop making things up...the PS4 has been outselling the xbox at atleast a 2:1 ratio almost since the beginning. In fact in 2015 it was so bad for MS, they decided to stop releasing sales figures for the Xb1. The drm disaster and the power difference, gave the PS4 a great start, and exclusive games did the rest.

And yeah i remember the time leading up to The Order 1886's release. The last 3 months, it was screenshots every week(Dualshockers+Abriel anyone?), and all the oohing and aahing just hyped the game to a point where anything less than perfection would be a failure.

I'm sure it will be good for the zombie genre fans but the game still doesn't look like it's that amazing. Plus with TLOU2 on the horizon, it's going to be really hard to stand out. Certainly going to be interesting. I honestly wish they would release a public demo before release.

I think Days Gone will do just fine, regardless of TLoU2 on the Horizon. We still don’t have a release date for TLoU2. DG will have time to breath, hence, why it was delayed from February to April.

Tlou2 has an indeterminate launch date. This game has resident evil hype to contend with right now, so it would be more prudent to use that if you want to try and say the game is going to bomb.

It's interesting I can't remember any open world games having a demo - maybe it's just me. But yeah I agree, they should release that "Horde Mode" as a demo. I hope at the very least there will be a stand alone horde survival mode in the game.

Combat looks fun, there appears to be a wide variety of weapons and strategy particularly when approaching hordes. The weapon wheel is always a welcome sight as well. It's great that people are enjoying it.

I think Days Gone is likely going to surprise some people. It's not getting as much hype as some other exclusives, but I've always thought it was going to be great. I really like Sony Bend and I actually used to live in the area where this game is set so it's even more interesting to me in that respect. But I mostly just think Sony Bend make good games and they've clearly put a lot of work into this game.

The fact that Sony Bend are allowing the general public to go hands on with the game is a very good sign of how confident they are, and how far along the game has come in its development. I'm really glad that the public perception is changing, I really don't understand why the gaming media immediately started throwing stones when the game was first shown at E3 2016. The hypocrisy of claiming "zombie fatigue" is clearly highlighted now that Resident Evil 2 is about to release and everyone and their mother is going batshit crazy over that game (so am I tbh). There is not one single article anywhere claiming that RE2 will fail because of "OMG Zombie Fatigue". Yet when it comes to Days Gone what do we hear?

Time will tell, but Archangel is right about the many articles claiming zombie (breakers BTW) fatigue. Maybe RE2 releasing and looking of a high standard has reignited interest in the genre.

Dude you're being disingenuous, it's not that the media say that they just don't like a Sony exclusive. If they did then they would at least be honest about their motivations. However, the media has said that this game is going to flop because there's too many open world games. But then they're all excited for Anthem, Metro Exodus, Far Cry New Dawn etc etc. They say there's too many Zombie games - but the same media are bugging out over RE2. Some have criticised TLOU for being too linear and "a walking simulator", and then turn round and say Days Gone is too much like TLOU - even though it's open world and has narrative choices and multiple endings.

Face it. It's blatant media bias and hypocrisy. Advertising or not - the media began tearing this game apart at it's E3 2016 reveal before any of them had even played it. Now you have people who actually have played it saying it's alot of fun and a day 1 buy. Heck at E3 IGN's Alanah Pearce was trying to tear the developers apart literally the very first question she asked was "how similar will this game be to TLOU". Game Informer gets exclusive access for a couple of days to Bend Studios and literally have a whole interview with the developers about why people should care about Days Gone because it will be just another "open word zombie game". That is media bias by very definition.

Wow to be truthful I’ve been caught up in the resident evil 2 hype because it’s my favorite resident evil and I can’t wait to play it but what you said is absolutely true and I can’t believe I’ve never noticed it. It does seem weird how people want to claim zombie fatigue yet are hyped to hell and back for resident evil 2 and are already asking for a remake of 3 to me that doesn’t seem like fatigue that seems like demand

You do realize this is a paid promotion by Days Gone and SIE through IGN right? I go to one video game website for other people's opinions and that's Giantbomb, and from their hands on time no one seemed positive. What Alanah Pearce says at IGN is irrelevant, especially when they ask low hanging, crap questions like "How similar to TLOU is Days Gone".

It's really hard for you to claim a media conspiracy or bias when this article is bought and paid for promotional material. You're actually looking at all the details except the one that pokes holes in your own argument.

Well firstly I'd suggest you broaden your scope, going to only one media outlet is myopic. Secondly, you're deliberately avoiding other media outlets and their unfounded criticism for the game - including the ones I referenced above. For clarity, there's a difference between a conspiracy and a bias. I never said there was a conspiracy - there isn't, but there is a bias. You have no argument against the fact that every gaming media outlet is excited for RE2 - but yet when Days Gone first showed they all shouted zombie fatigue. Whats your explanation for that? What's our explanation for sites like Kotaku, Polygon et al all talking about the game is going to be a flop because we're all apparently so tired of open world zombie games? But yet they're all excited for World War Z - an open world zombie game?

They are not conspiring (they just inhabit the same echo chamber, and drink the same hipster-try-hard-edgy-journali st-cool aid), but they do have a bias against Sony Exclusive titles that you don't see when compared to multiplatform equivalents. We heard the same nay sayings with God of War, Horizon, Detroit, even with Marvel's Spiderman. All games that went on to become blockbuster games, and Days Gone will be no different.

Holy crap. I think, if anything, it's the opposite. There are enough console fanboys in the media that it seems to me that exclusives tend to get overrated a bit. A multiplatform game generally has to be better than an equivalent exclusive just to get the same score.

I simply don't see this anti-Sony bias some of you claim exists. To me it seems like the media is by and large very positive towards Sony and its games. I think some of you are so sensitive and you can't really tolerate anything less than a consistent message of "Sony's the best, everything else is crap or, at least, not as good".

I say this as someone that has always been looking forward to Days Gone. You can search my comment history and you'll see that I've expressed excitement and positivity about the game since it was first shown.

Sure, I've noticed some people don't seem too excited about it, but I've also seen plenty of excitement and anticipation for the game expressed on various game sites and YouTube channels.

And honestly, compared to what most multiplatform games go through these days that is a fairly mild and balanced degree of skepticism. Almost every multiplatform game that I've looked forward to had a significant amount of drama surrounding it and people trying to downplay it. So why would exclusives be off the hook? I honestly think a lot of the negativity and nitpicking in the gaming community and media is unjustified. I would love to see much of that negativity and toxicity go away. But it wouldn't be fair for it to only go away for exclusives while multiplats continue to get nitpicked to death.

Totally agree with what you said about the media bias. Unfortunately a lot of people get easily influenced to the point they dont even realise it. I said it from the beginning too. I mean I cant even understand how people didnt see it. DG is going to be great or maybe not. Thats not the point, i know Im going to love it. The media maybe not.
You said it, there was no talk of zombie fatigue for State of Decay or RE or WWZ etc etc. Even games revealed after DG were not called out for 'zombie fatigue'. Maybe part of the press is just imbecile, or they feel that angle makes for easy articles...

I love Resident Evil and have played my fair share of RE games. I'm just as hyped for the RE2 remake as anyone else; but consider that there have been over 40 RE games released since 1996 and that at least one RE game has been released nearly every year since then - with some years seeing multiple different RE games being released ( https://uk.ign.com/articles... various RE games released in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017) and yet the games media are still hyped for the RE2 Remake.

After nearly 50 annualised zombie games, the games media would be justified in calling out Capcom for making "another zombie game". Heck they are making a zombie game (RE2 remake) that has already been ported, remastered, and remade numerous times already.
And yet - not one of our beloved gaming sites even suggests that Capcom is being derivative, or cliched. In fact all Capcom has right now is praise for making "yet another zombie game". A zombie game that most of that fans have already played multiple times before.

Really glad people are enjoying it! Here the thing, Days Gone has always looked awesome to me! A beautiful yet dangerous open world set in Oregon teeming with wildlife both infected and not. Thousands of Freakers that have an actual ecosystem where they live/sleep , Hunt and whatever else it is Freakers do!

The crafting sounds cool and I love scouring through dilapidated buildings for materials to craft. Customizing the bike and having to maintain it will give the game added tension and I like how time of day, weather and your different approaches can affect a raid on a camp!

I don't get the "oh I'm tired of this or that" because if something is well done and entertaining people will find it! Halloween hit last October and there have been how many sequels yet when the material is taken seriously that's the reaction you'll get. Horror, comedies and dramas are all still viable genres because again if it's well made people will respond!

Again if Days Gone is z multi plat title I guarantee you that we don't see the amount of concern for it!

They're not zombies, they're freakers. Think of zombies, but they move a bit quicker. Think of the way zombies were way back in 2002 in 28 days later and that's the way zombies/freakers are i this game.

I like the fact they are alive and as such have an ecosystem and they hunt, sleep, breed and such. The 28 Days Later comparison works as far as their speed but where those just ran themselves to death, Freakers sustain themselves with nourishment. So far I've seen regular, the screamers and the little ones. I imagine as the game progresses we'll see even more varieties.

I admit it, I continue to forget about this game. I never planned on buying it day one, looks too generic/arcade-y for my taste. It could end up surprising people though and be a surprise hit. Not holding my breath but I'll stay cautiously optimistic

I have been a bit worried about days gone because Sony hasn’t really took the time to showcase this game at a big event. To me it’s like they don’t really believe in it. I have really been looking forward to this game and hopefully it gets some nice hype leading up to its launch. I thing Bend deserves the chance to play with the big boys and would love to see them release a solid title. I want to see some more gameplay but I’m hoping they show me enough to warrant a digital preorder. I prefer to own all Sony exclusives digitally because you can count on them being worth multiple play through. What do you guys think the game will score on metacritic? I’m guessing somewhere between 78 and 82. Hopefully it’s another jewel in the library, we shall see soon

Days Gone looks like it is going to a another great game for Sony. I am glad as this game is Bend Studio's first really big game and they appear to have approached it with a view to give us something that although set in a familiar world of Zombies is full of new ideas and approaches, all to ensure that we as gamers have the best possible time playing the game. Looking at the various trailers and gameplay videos out there, I am really looking forward to this game!

And before you fan-nerds start - I own a PS4. Won't be picking this up though! The slow action shooting etc...talk about stupid. Why make the zombies so fast that you have to introduce slow-mo shooting like Red Dead? Lol

It's the first major exclusive for Sony in 2019. Are you not confident in the tone it will set? I think it's going to be great and set the tone for Sony in 2019.

My interest in this has risen greatly from about 60% to 80% in the last 6 months. I didn't get it before, but I think the encounters in the game is what will sell it.

The game simply looked rough, initially and it's reveal wasn't the strongest when they unveiled it. Subsequent showings improved it's appeal, but there was this nagging feeling of fatigue from zombie genre games.

Looking forward to this. I still don't think this is going to be another Sony gem like God of war or horizon or uncharted ect. But I think it's going to be a good.
