David Fincher Plans To Shoot ’20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ In 3D

David Fincher is certainly not timid when it comes to embracing new filmmaking technology. So it comes as little shock that what should be his next project, Disney’s new adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, will utilize state-of-the-art 3D camera equipment to bring Jules Verne’s sea-faring adventure to life.

Industry channel is for corporate news. This is news about a specific movie. So it should go in Cinema channel (since it's a major release) and tag for the movie should be added.

I didn't really like the first one, and usually I like Tom Clancy stories.

JL4859d ago

Umm Tom Clancy? What? I'm confused.

Soldierone4859d ago

Oh wow....got this confused with The Hunt for Red October lol....

JL4858d ago

Aaah lol Gotcha. That makes sense now. I was confused as hell. I was like I know full well Verne wrote the original.

I remember loving the Original 20000 Leagues as a kid but it's been such a long time since I've seen it that I may not enjoy it as much. The story and idea though is great and well due a revisit with modern filming techniques.

JL4858d ago

I can't say I've seen the original. Or not that I remember at least, maybe I did when real young and don't remember...? However, behind the Sherlock Holmes books/stories, those classic adventure novels are my favorites. Things like this and Moby Dick, Treasure Island, Around the World in 80 Days, The Time Machine, Robinson Crusoe, Jungle Book, Kidnapped and so on and so on.

I loved 20,000 Leagues though. I'd like to see what they could do with some of that stuff with today's technology. Like the Atlantis scene would be cool.

Crazay4858d ago

I thought Atlantis was kinda cool when I was young in the original movie but again, I was just a wee lad when that came out. A proper retelling of a few of those stories you mentioned could be well worth a big budget venture for someone. Treasure Island would be AWESOME! Sadly I think it would just be compared to Pirates of the Caribbean but I think if done right it could be huge.

JL4858d ago

Yes, despite some people having a problem with classics being "tampered with", I think the best should always be revisited periodically when the advances in technology call for it. Though they should be handled by someone adept enough to pull it off (rather than make it some mindless piece of eye-candy, bastardizing the story itself).

Treasure Island would be cool. Honestly, Moby Dick would be pretty awesome too if they really captured the story properly and did so with cool visual effects.

Crazay4858d ago

That is without a doubt the key to remaking movies. Don't mess around with the source material and use a reputable director who can make a good movie and not just fluff.

I think there was a recent Moby Dick release but it was direct to video. Seem to recall seeing it at the store not too long ago.
